Vegan Restaurants in Koh Rong, Cambodia

Koh Rong is absolutely gorgeous and a nice place for a tropical getaway in Cambodia. Koh Rong is kind of notorious for its party scene, but it’s beautiful clear water and sandy beaches also make it the perfect place to just relax for a while. I really enjoyed my time in Koh Rong soaking up the sun and staying in a little beach bungalow. To be completely honest, the vegan scene in Koh Rong was a bit disappointing after Siem Reap and Battambang. However, I still managed to eat pretty well and enjoy some delicious meals.

Paradise Bungalows

Paradise Bungalows was actually our accommodation during our Koh Rong trip. The bungalows were cozy, located right on the beach, and had the best vegan food that I ate on the island. Even if you choose a different hotel or hostel to stay at, I still recommend coming to Paradise Bungalows for some good food and views of the beach. During my stay, I tried many dishes including a veggie burger, veggie noodle, soup, veggie curry, and spring rolls. My favorite dish, though, was by far the Khmer Spiced Tofu. It was spicy, flavorful, and full of fresh veg.

Sky Bar

Sky Bar wasn’t the easiest establishment to find on the island but by far one of the best! They call it Sky Bar for a reason…after turning down a small alley off the main drag on Koh Toch Beach, you’ll have to climb quite a few flights of stairs before reaching the entrance. However, the view from the top is worth every stair! A friend and I came here just for cocktails so we didn’t order any food, but there were plenty of delicious-sounding vegan options such as sushi, wraps, smoothie bowls, and more.

Nest Beach Club

This restaurant/bar is located on 4k Beach which was a short walk away from our hotel. We ended up here because of it’s convenient location to where we were hanging out for the day. That being said, it was surprisingly great for a random place that we just happened to stumble upon. There were some vegetarian options marked on the menu, and I spoke to a waitress about their vegan options. They were able to make me a vegan pad thai which was really fresh and light making it the perfect meal on a hot day. It was nothing like any traditional pad thai I’ve had in the past, but yet I really enjoyed Nest Beach Club’s take on the dish.

Rising Sun

While researching Koh Rong, this vegetarian restaurant popped up quite a bit and was by far the restaurant I was most excited to try. My expectations were fairly high which could have contributed to why it was such a letdown for me. I ordered the wrap with grilled eggplant and peanut sauce. In the restaurant’s defense, I’m not the biggest fan of eggplant so for me to actually enjoy it, it has to be cooked really well. The peanut sauce was super thick, almost like it was just simply peanut butter instead of a peanut sauce. I LOVED the sauce/spread, but not so much in this dish. I would have preferred it on a piece of toast. Sure, I didn’t care for my meal, but I still think it’s worth trying this spot out while on the island. Maybe you’ll have a different opinion than me.
